We had reviewed the HP DV6 a few months back and today we have a slightly refreshed version of the same, but with AMD's new Turion II processor. Let's see on what counts the laptop has improved from its predecessor.
Design and Build
Since this new model is physically the same as the older one, we will quickly run you through the basics. For a detailed read, click here. Just like all HP laptops, the black and silver combination looks pretty cool. The artsy designer top and illuminated logo adds to the charm. The only downside is that the body attracts fingerprints. The build is fairly sturdy. At almost three kilos it's not exactly lightweight, but it's quite alright for a laptop of this size. The screen is adequately bright and offers good readability. Hi-def movies look good on it. The keyboard is comfortable to type on. The touchpad, although made of a shiny mirror-like material that attracts fingerprints, offers decent accuracy. The on-board Altec Lansing speakers are loud and emit clear audio quality. There's a fingerprint scanner at the right corner, and it works as advertised. We found it convenient to log in without typing the password every time.
Overall, the laptop is quite nicely built. If we had to nitpick, we'd say we had a little problem with its cooling. With regular use the base would stay fairly cool, but on running an intensive app like a game, the top right corner of the laptop would get slightly heated up more than usual. It did manage to cool down again pretty fast though. Thus we'd advise using this laptop on a desk when you're really cranking it.
